The Dixie Carter Performing Arts Center, “The Dixie”, is a jewel of Huntington, the County seat. Established in 1999 the local authorities created a cultural center and named in honor of the area’s most famous resident, Dixie Carter. Both Dixie Carter and Hal Holbrook have over the years performed at various fundraisers to support the many cultural activities often not available in rural areas such as dance classes, Dixie Youth Theatre, Dixie Children’s Chorus, Mudslingers Pottery Studio and summer camps. Additionally they partner with local middle school to provide after-school classes including photography, cooking, and pottery at no cost to the students.
The Dixie has been the site of performers such as New York City Ballet, Nashville Symphony, Richard Marx, Lady Antebellum and many others since it’s inception. Additionally it is the home to The Dixie Players, our community theatre troupe and the site of numerous free community events each season for area residents.
